  first time in a long time.

  my door was open, i went into the living room and saw them standing at the door.

  they (two old men) said " we are in your neighborhood for a brief bible discussion".

  Sign of the Last Days THEN!

  the last days in the 14th century

  all through recorded history there have been people who have pointed to the calamities, horrors and disasters in the world, and preached that this signified an imminent end of the world.

  this isnt even unique to christianity, which started off with strong millennial expectations in the 1st century, and for the most part retains the same expectations almost 2000 years later.

  So the lesson we can learn from this is that you can't believe every word written in the bible. Besides no one knows for sure if Jesus actually said those things or were added in after the fact.

  The Man In The Middle

  yesterday, i was thinking about amazing's very insightful elder series.

  today, i read dungbeetle's thoughtful post on culpability.

  this led me to write about the elder situation from somewhat of a different perspective.

  There are two types of elders. There are the ones that take the position to their heads and lord it over others. These are the ones that take everything from the society as gospel truth and everything is black and white. They run the congregation like a business with no feelings for the members. Unfortunately these are the ones that have most of the say in the congregation. They seem to forget that we live by Christian principles and not laws. The other type of elder is the ones that live by Christian principles. They are genuinely concerned about the brothers and sisters welfare in the congregation. They will use their mental reasoning powers a little more but are always kept in check by the mother organization. These ones eventually get a Crisis of Conscience and walk away from it because they can see that the whole system is corrupt.

  a friend asked me to accompany him to the district assembly held this past weekend in our area.

  in the talk at 11:40 am sunday, entitled be like jeremiah--fearlessly proclaim the word of god, as others have posted on this board, a reference was made about the dateline program, but no specifics were given.. from the meagre notes and memory, i will try and paraphrase the argument the speaker read from his pre-packaged discourse.

  he quoted the text from 1john 5:19, ....the whole world is lying in the power of the wicked one.

  I have a tape of the talk but they did not mention anything about what you spoke of. You may have been referring to the talk on Friday "Guard Against Deception". He dealt with those points and I taped that one also but the quality is not very good. I am just wondering if someone out there has or could tell me if there is a software that can improve the voice so it is audible. If interested let me know I don't have a lot of time right now but I could forward you the recording. It is in a WAV format.

  I recall as a kid being told that the old TV actress Eve Arden was a JW although I don't know if this was a nasty dub rumor. She was a contemporary of Lucy Balls 1950 TV show, I think it was call "Our Miss Brooks". Maybe some older person here can verify. Also the jazz singer George Benzen was one. As a matter of fact I know some dubs that met him at the Kingdom hall in Hawaii. Someone commented that he couldn't have been a very good JW being an entertainer and all and I replied that he was an elder in the congregation.
